Compressor HVAC: Service and Repair






Removal / Installation
1. Evacuate the refrigerant into a recovery unit.
2. Remove the air cleaner and intake port.
3. Remove the high- and low-pressure pipes from the compressor.
4. Remove the A/C drive belt as follows:
1) Loosen the locknuts.
2) Fully loosen the adjusting bolt.
3) Remove the A/C drive belt.
5. Remove as shown in the figure, referring to Removal Note.
6. Install in the reverse order of removal, referring to Installation Note.

Removal Note
- Immediately plug all open fittings to keep moisture out of system.

Installation Note
- For connecting order of fittings, refer to refrigerant line installation note.
- When installing a new compressor, remove the following amount of compressor oil from the new compressor.
Removed oil amount (cm3 {cu in})
= 8.54 {140} - [oil from old compressor + 0.92 (+0.31/-0) {15 (+5/-0)}]


- Adjust the deflection of the drive belt as follows.





Adjustment

CAUTION:
- If a new belt Is used, adjust the belt deflection at the midpoint of new belt specification.
- A belt is considered "New" if it has been used on a running engine for less than five minutes.

A/C compressor belt deflection
New: 12 - 13mm {0.48 - 0.51 in}
Used: 13 - 14mm {0.52 - 0.55 in}


Loosen the locknut and adjust the belt deflection by turning the adjusting bolt.

Locknut tightening torque:
37.3 - 51.9 N.m {3.8 - 5.3 kgf.m, 27.5 - 38.3 ft.lbf}
