Component Inspection

TERMINAL VOLTAGE

Oxygen Sensor Terminal Voltage:

1. Warm engine to operating temperature and run at idle.
2. Unplug oxygen sensor connector and connect voltmeter between terminals A and B.
3. Measure voltage while suddenly increasing and decreasing engine speed several times:

Deceleration: Below 0.4V
Acceleration: Above 0.5V

4. Replace sensor if not as specified.

HEATER RESISTANCE

1. Measure resistance between terminals C and B. It should be 4 - 40 ohms @ 68°F (20°C).
2. Replace sensor if not as specified.

SENSITIVITY

1. Warm engine to operating temperature. Connect SST's (System Selector and Self-Diagnosis Checker), or equivalent, to data link connector. Set switch A to position 1. Set TEST SW to 02 MONITOR.
2. Increase engine speed to between 2000 and 3000 rpm. Verify that monitor lamp flashes for 10 seconds and flashes more than 8 times.
3. If not as specified, replace sensor.

NOTE:
^ Brake pedal depressed: Monitors right oxygen sensor
^ Brake pedal released: Monitors left oxygen sensor
