Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

VARIABLE RESISTOR

Throttle Position Sensor Check:

1. Connect SST, or equivalent, to PCME as shown.
2. Set SST (Engine Signal Monitor) to terminal 2F. Turn ignition ON.
3. Rotate throttle link by hand and ensure voltage is within specification:

Fully closed: 0.1 - 1.1V
Fully open: 3.0 - 4.3V

4. If not as specified, adjust sensor and recheck. Refer to Adjustments.
5. If still out of specification after adjustment, replace sensor.

IDLE SWITCH CHECK

Idle Switch Check:

1. Unplug sensor connector.
2. Connect an ohmmeter across terminals C and D.
3. Insert a 0.004 in (0.1 mm) feeler gauge between throttle stopper screw and throttle valve lever. Ensure that continuity exists.
4. Replace first gauge with a 0.008 in (0.2 mm) gauge. Ensure that continuity does not exist.
5. If not as specified, adjust throttle sensor and recheck. Refer to Adjustments.
6. If still out of specification after adjustment, replace sensor.
