Injector
Cold Start Injector:
PURPOSE
Injects an additional quantity of fuel into the dynamic chamber to assist with cold starting (below 32°F, 0°C).
LOCATION
Right rear of dynamic chamber.
OPERATION
Fuel is supplied to the injector from the fuel rail at system pressure. Battery voltage is applied to the injector solenoid when the ignition is turned to START. The solenoid is energized when the cold start injector relay completes the circuit to ground. The PCME operates the cold start injector by grounding the relay hold-in coil circuit. Additional fuel is injected for varying lengths of time depending on engine temperature, but only while cranking. Once the engine starts, the injector is turned OFF.
