Starter Motor Inspection
1. Turn ignition switch to Start position.2. Measure voltage between starter solenoid S terminal and ground.
3. If voltage is 8 volts or more, there is a starter malfunction. If voltage is less than 8 volts, there is malfunction in the wiring harness. Turn ignition switch to the Start position. If a clicking noise is heard from starter area, inspect starter motor and wiring harness. If nothing happened, proceed to step two.
4. Hold ignition at Start position. Check voltage between terminal S and ground. If voltage is approximately 12 volts, inspect magnetic switch. If not, proceed to step three.
5. If vehicle is not equipped with a clutch or the brake pedal does not have to be depressed to start vehicle, proceed to step 4. If vehicle is equipped with a clutch or the brake has to be depressed to start vehicle, proceed as follows:
a. Depress clutch/brake pedal. Check voltage on starter side of interlock/inhibitor switch. If 12 volts, check wiring harness from switch to starter solenoid. If not, proceed to step b.
b. Depress clutch/brake pedal. Check voltage on ignition side of interlock/inhibitor switch. If 12 volts, check interlock/inhibitor switch. If not, inspect wiring harness from ignition switch to interlock/inhibitor switch.
4. Inspect wiring from ignition switch to starter solenoid.
