Fluid Pressure Inspection
1. Install pressure test tools as shown in Fig. 5 through 11.Fig. 5 Pressure Tool Installation:

2. Bleed air from system as outlined under Power Steering System Bleed.
3. Open tool valve, start engine and raise power steering fluid temperature to normal range by turning wheel stop to stop repeatedly.
4. Close tool valve, increase engine speed to 1000 - 1500 RPM and measure oil pump fluid pressure. Open valve. Do not allow valve on tool to remain closed for more than 15 seconds or pump damage will result.
5. If pressure is not as specified in Power Steering Pressure Specifications chart, replace oil pump assembly.
6. With valve on tool open turn steering wheel from stop to stop and measure gear housing pressure.
7. If pressure is not as specified in the Power Steering Pressure Specifications chart, replace steering gear assembly.
