Ball Joint, Lower

To inspect ball joint, control arm must be separated from steering knuckle.
To separate control arm from knuckle, refer to Control Arm. Use following procedure to check ball joint turning torque.
1. Shake stud of ball joint six times.
2. Attach spring scale tool No. 490180510B, or equivalent, to ball stud and measure turning torque, Fig. 3.

3. Spring scale reading should be 1.1 - 3.3 lbs. while ball stud is rotating.
4. If any ball joint pull scale reading is not within specifications, control arm must be replaced.
