1993 Models - Vehicles with a VIN of JM1HD461*P0200001 through JM1HD4G1*P0203713.
DESCRIPTION
A new "Auto Light Off" system is standard on the 1993 929. The system prevents the battery from draining it a customer forgets to switch off the headlights. This feature was not available on the 1992 model.
Mazda has changed the way the system operates when the owner restarts the engine after leaving the lights on. The change is explained in a recent correction to the 1993 Owner's Manual (Bulletin No. 002/93, Category AD).
Please use the Owner's Manual explanation (page 4-26) for your own reference and when you need to inform the customer about the new feature or the mid-year change (see affected Vins above) that occurred. You may also refer to the following explanation, similar to the one in the Owner's Manual.
Explanation of 1993 929 Auto Light Off System
If the light switch is left on, the lights will automatically switch off when:
1. The ignition is turned off for over five minutes; and/or
2. The ignition key is removed.
Turning the Lights On After the "Auto Light Off" System Functions
The operation to turn on the lights (after the "Auto Light Off) system has turned the lights off) has been changed.
On vehicles with the original system (VIN from JM1HD4G1*P0200001 to 203714): the lights turn on when the ignition key is inserted as long as the ignition has been off for fewer than five minutes. If more than five minutes have passed, the driver must turn the light switch oft and then turn it on again to turn on the headlights.
On vehicles with the modified system (VIN equal to or greater than JM1HD4G1 * P0203715): the lights will turn on when the ignition key is inserted no matter how long the ignition has been off. In other words, the driver does not need to re-cycle the light switch.
