On some vehicles, when idling or accelerating around 2000 rpm, a vibrating noise may be heard from the main silencer's variable valve spring. The length of the spring for the variable valve has been modified to correct this condition.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

If the above condition exists, replace the variable valve spring with a modified part.

1. Raise the vehicle on a hoist.

2. Turn the valve spring collar clockwise to create some slack. Disconnect the variable valve cable from the valve spring collar.

3. With a flathead screwdriver or long nose pliers, release the valve spring from the main silencer as illustrated.

4. Remove the spring by uncoiling it from the valve collar as illustrated.

5. Install the modified valve spring by coiling it on the valve collar.

6. Attach the valve spring to the main silencer.
