DESCRIPTION
While driving, the following noise may be heard from the sunroof area of the vehicle:

^ A loud rattle noise from the sunroof when the sunroof is 3/4 open.
These noises are assembly related. To reduce the noise, the diameter of the bolt fastening the position plate has been enlarged.
If a customer complains of this noise, inspect the vehicle and if necessary, repair the sunroof according to the instructions in this bulletin.
NOTE:
Service Managers should place a copy of this bulletin in the NVH manual for future reference.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the complaint.
^ If the rattling noise is heard when the sunroof is in the closed or 3/4 opened position, then the complaint fits the criteria for this repair. Proceed to step 2.
^ If the noise occurs under other conditions, refer to the workshop manual or past Service Bulletin (Cat. S, 013/95) for troubleshooting and repair information.
2. Remove the glass or steel panel.
NOTE:
Vehicles with a solar panel - This solar panel is connected to the body by wiring and can not be completely removed. After removing the screws fastening the solar panel, carefully lay the panel on the roof. Cover the roof with a protective cloth prior to laying the panel on the paint.
CAUTION:
Take care not to scratch the vehicle paint or the sunroof panel. Do not open or close the sunroof while the solar panel is on the roof.
3. Remove the bolts and washers fastening the positioning plate, front guide and rear guide to the sunroof assembly. Refer to Fig. 1.
NOTE:
Washers must be re-used when installing the new bolt. Take precautions not to damage or lose the washers.
4. Lift the position plate and remove any grease from the areas indicated in Fig. 2.
5. Attach the pads to the areas indicated in Fig. 2.
6. Apply adhesive (super glue or equivalent) to the areas of the pad shown. Refer to Fig. 2.
NOTE:
Although the pads have an adhesive backing, it is important to attach the pads with additional adhesive to prevent pad movement.

8. Install the steel or solar panel and adjust the gap according to the instructions in section S of the workshop manual.
NOTE:
Vehicles with a solar panel - Confirm that the wiring for the solar panel does not interfere with the sunroof drive mechanism (position plates etc.)
