Fluid - A/T: Service and Repair
InspectionLevel
CAUTION: Place the vehicle on a flat, level surface.
1. Apply the parking brake and position wheel chocks securely to prevent the vehicle from rolling.
2. Warm up the engine until the ATF reaches 60 - 70 °C (140 - 158 °F)
3. While depressing the brake pedal, shift the selector lever to each range (P-L) and leave it a few seconds in each range.
4. Shift back to P.
NOTE: The COOL (20 °C) range is used only as a rough reference.
5. Ensure that the ATF level is in the HOT (65 °C) range. Add ATF to specification, if necessary.
ATF type: Dexron(R) II or M-III
Condition
NOTE: Carefully check the condition of the ATF and determine If the automatic transaxle should be disassembled.
If the ATF Is muddy or varnished, It indicates burned drive plates.
1. Check the ATF for discoloration.
2. Check the ATF for any unusual smell.
Fluid leaks
Check the transaxle for ATF leaks at the following points and repair or replace as necessary.
1. Gaskets, O-rings, and plugs
2. Oil hoses, oil pipes, and connections
