Evaporative Emissions System: Description and Operation
Evaporative Emission Control System:
PURPOSE
Through its control of this solenoid valve, the ECU regulates the evaporative emission control system (EVAP) according to engine operating conditions.
LOCATION
Engine compartment, near center of firewall.
OPERATION
The solenoid is operated by duty signals from the ECU. The quantity of evaporative fumes introduced into the engine is controlled corresponding to engine operating conditions. Evaporative fumes are purged from the charcoal canister under these conditions:
^ Engine at operating temperature.
^ Vehicle being driven in gear.
^ Accelerator pedal depressed (throttle sensor off idle).
^ Oxygen sensor functioning properly.
