Throttle Cable
Inspection
1. Check the cable and housing for damage.
2. Verify that the accelerator operates smoothly.
3. Replace the throttle cable assembly if necessary.
Replacement
1. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle lever (throttle body).
CAUTION:
- Loosen bolt 1 first.
- Discard bolt 1 after removing it.
2. Loosen and remove bolts 1 and 2.
3. Remove the throttle cable from the bracket.
4. Drain the ATF into a suitable container.
5. Suspend the engine with the SST, and remove the engine mounting member.
6. Remove the oil pan and gasket.
7. Remove the control valve body.
8. Remove the throttle cable from the throttle cam.
9. Remove the mounting bolt and throttle cable from the transaxle.
10. Install the new throttle cable to the throttle cam.
11. Connect the throttle cable to the throttle lever (throttle body).
CAUTION: Do not reuse bolt 1.
12. Tighten the bolts as shown in the figure.
Tightening torque: 7.9 - 10.7 N.m (8 - 110 kg.cm, 70 - 95.4 in.lb)
13. Install the control valve body.
Tightening torque: 7.9 - 10.7 N.m (8 - 110 kg.cm, 70 - 95.4 in.lb)
CAUTION: Apply a thin coat of sealant to both sides of the gasket.
14. Install a new gasket and install the oil pan.
Tightening torque: 8.4 - 10.7 N.m (8 - 110 kg.cm, 70 - 95.4 in.lb)
15. Install the engine mounting member and remove the SST.
16. Add ATF, and with the engine idling, check the ATF level and check for leaks.
17. Adjust the throttle cable as outlined in the line pressure test. Line Pressure Test
Adjustment
1. Remove the square-head L plug and install the SST.
2. Shift into P range and start the engine. Warm up the engine to normal operating temperature, and adjust the idle speed if necessary.
Idle speed:
B6 SOHC 700 - 800 rpm
K8 DOHC 640 - 700 rpm
(With parking brake applied)
CAUTION: Loosen bolt 1 first.
3. Loosen bolts 1 and 2.
4. Verify that the throttle is fully closed.
5. Tighten bolt 1.
Tightening torque: 6.9 - 9.8 N.m (70 - 100 kg.cm, 61 - 86.8 in.lb)
6. Pull the throttle cable in the "A" direction of the arrow as shown below until the line pressure exceeds the specified pressure.
CAUTION: If the line pressure does not decrease to the adjustment pressure, tighten bolt 2 with the line pressure at the closest point (X) to adjustment pressure.
7. Push the cable in the "B" direction of the arrow until the line pressure decreases to the adjustment pressure.
Adjustment pressure: 510 kPa (5.2 kg/sq.cm, 74 psi)
8. Tighten bolt 2.
Tightening torque: 6.9 - 9.80 N.m (70 - 100 kg.cm, 61 - 86.8 in.lb)
9. Stop the engine and verify that the throttle cable moves smoothly.
10. Restart the engine and accelerate it slightly, then run it at idle.
11. Verify that the line pressure is within specification.
Specified pressure: 50 - 20 kPa (5.1 - 5.3 kg/sq.cm, 73 - 75 psi)
12. If not correct, repeat from Step 3.
13. Stop the engine.
14. Remove the SST (oil pressure gauge set) and install a new square head plug L.
Tightening torque: 5.0 - 9.80 N.m (50 - 100 kg.cm, 44 - 86.8 in.lb)
