Accumulators
Disassembly/Inspection/Assembly
1. Disassemble in the order shown in the figure, referring to Disassembly Note.
2. Inspect all parts and repair or replace as necessary.
3. Assemble in the reverse order of disassembly, referring to Assembly Procedure.
Disassembly note
Accumulator piston
Remove the accumulator pistons from the converter housing by applying compressed air through the oil passages as shown in the figure.
Air pressure: 392 kPa (4.0 kg/sq.cm, 57 psi) max.
Inspection
Accumulator spring
NOTE: Do not compress the spring when measuring it with vernier calipers.
1. Measure the spring free length.
2. If not as specified, replace the spring.
Assembly procedure
Seal Ring Innder Diameter, D-ring Inner Diameter:
1. Apply ATF to the new seal ring and D-ring (1-2 accumulator) and install them onto the accumulator.
2. Apply ATF to the new O-rings and install them onto the stops.
O-ring inner diameter: 28.1 mm (1.12 in)
CAUTION: Apply even pressure to the perimeter of the accumulator pistons and the stops to avoid damaging the O-ring, seal rings, and D-ring while installing.
NOTE: Installation order
- 2-3 accumulator: piston-spring-stop
- 1-2 accumulator: piston-spring-stop
- N-D accumulator: piston-spring-stop
- N-R accumulator: spring-piston-stop
3. Install the accumulator pistons and springs.
4. Install the stops and snap rings.
