Speedometer Sensor
SPEEDOMETER SENSOR (K8 DOHC)NOTE: The speedometer sensor is an alternating current generator. Therefore, a direct current general circuit tester can not follow the vehicle speed if It Is fast. (If using an alternating current circuit tester, voltage increases when vehicle speed increases.)
Speedometer
Inspection
1. Remove the instrument cluster.
2. Disconnect the speedometer connector.
NOTE: Set the voltmeter to the 5 V range.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK position.
4. Measure the voltage between terminals 2D and 2A of the speedometer connector (harness side) with the front wheels turning slowly.
5. When the voltmeter pointer moves slightly, replace the speedometer.
If the pointer does not move, check the speedometer sensor and/or wiring.
6. Connect the speedometer connector.
7. Install the instrument cluster.
Speedometer sensor
Inspection
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the speedometer sensor.
3. Verify that magnetic resistance is felt when turning the speedometer sensor driven gear by hand.
4. Disconnect the speedometer sensor connector.
NOTE: Set the voltmeter to the 5V range.
5. Measure the voltage between terminals A and B with the front wheels turning slowly.
6. If the pointer does not move, check the speedometer sensor continuity.
7. Measure the resistance between terminals A and B.
Resistance: Approx. 290 Ohm (at 20 °C (68 °F))
8. if not correct, replace the speedometer sensor.
9. Apply ATF to a new O-ring and install it on the speedometer sensor.
10. Install the speedometer sensor.
Tightening torque: 4.9 - 6.9 N.m (50 - 70 kg.cm, 43 - 61 in.lb)
11. Connect the speedometer sensor connector.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.
Replacement
1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Disconnect the speedometer sensor connector.
3. Remove the speedometer sensor from the converter housing.
4. Apply ATF to a new O-ring and install it on the speedometer sensor.
5. Install the new speedometer sensor.
Tightening torque: 4.9 - 6.9 N.m (50 - 70 kg.cm, 43 - 61 in.lb)
6. Connect the speedometer sensor connector.
7. Connect the negative battery cable.
