Fuel Filter: Description and Operation
PURPOSEFilter is a high pressure canister type that removes even very small (microscopic) particles from the fuel.
LOCATION
Left side engine compartment near charcoal canister.
OPERATION
Because of high pressures and large fuel system flow volume, tiny particles can erode away the sealing surfaces of fuel injectors and pressure regulators, causing injector leaks and fuel pressure loss. Larger particles can plug up the tiny orifices in injectors, restricting fuel, or collect between the sealing surfaces of injectors, preventing them from shutting off fuel completely.
