Variable Induction System: Testing and Inspection

Variable Resonance Induction System:

SYSTEM OPERATION

VRIS System Operation:

1. Start engine and run at idle.
2. Open throttle valve quickly.
3. Verify that rods of shutter valve actuators 1 and 2 are operated.

SHUTTER VALVE ACTUATORS

VRIS Actuator Check:

1. Disconnect vacuum hose from actuator and attach vacuum pump.
2. Apply vacuum and verify that rod is pulled into actuator.
3. If not as specified, replace actuator.

CHECK VALVE

VRIS Check Valve:

1. Remove check valve.
2. Blow through A and verify air flows from B.
3. Blow through B and verify air does not flow from A.

VACUUM CHAMBER

VRIS Vacuum Chamber:

1. Inspect vacuum chambers for clogging, cracks, or other damage.
2. Replace if problem is detected.

SOLENOID VALVES

VRIS Solenoid Valve Check:

1. Disconnect valve. Verify air flow between valve ports as described on image chart.
2. Apply battery voltage across solenoid terminals. Verify air flow between valve ports as described on image chart.
3. If not as specified, replace solenoid valve.
