DESCRIPTION

The Air Bag System of the 1993 MX-6 and 626 models has a safety feature that prevents the air bag from accidental deployment when an ohmmeter or electric static (from a tester) is applied to the air bag module terminals.

Disconnecting the 2-pole connector of the air bag module and clock spring causes a shorting bar to come in contact with the exposed terminals. This creates a short circuit and prevent deployment of the air bag.

When reconnecting the connector, insert pin B into part A to sever the connection between the two terminals, Make sure pin B is not broken. If it is, replace the combination switch - part number GA2A 66 120A. If the inserting bar is damaged, bent or inappropriately inserted, code 34 will illuminate on the air bag malfunction indicator. Refer to Section S of the applicable Workshop Manual for further information on code 34.
