RATTLE FROM REAR PACKAGE TRAY
DESCRIPTION
A rattling noise heard in the rear package tray area may be caused by the package tray contacting the metal panel below.
To eliminate the rattle, foam tape must be installed between the package tray and the metal panel. Refer to the instructions in this bulletin to install the foam tape.
NOTE:
The foam tape described in this bulletin is not available through the parts department. Any adhesive back foam tape can be used for this application.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify location of complaint.
2. Refer to the workshop manual section S-98 for rear tray removal instructions.
NOTE:
The tray locator pins may be broken during disassembly. These pins are used only during vehicle production and are not required after final assembly. Breakage is common and does not require replacement.
3. Cut four (4) pieces of adhesive backed foam tape. Dimensions of the tape should be 15 mm wide X 30 mm long X 2.5 mm thick.
4. Apply the tape onto the metal panel at the areas marked "A". Refer to the illustration.
NOTE:
Do not apply the tape to the package tray.
5. Make incisions in the tape to allow the package tray clips to pass through and attach to the sheet metal panel below.
6. Reinstall the rear package tray and confirm the rattle noise is gone.
