DESCRIPTION

The shift lever that will not move from the "Park" position without using the "Shift Lock Override" key cylinder (located beside the shift lever on the console). This may be caused by a faulty shift lock actuator. To correct this problem, the shift lock actuator has been redesigned. Customer's complaining of this problem should have only the shift lock actuator replaced.

NOTE:
Replacing the entire shift mechanism assembly is not necessary to correct this problem.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Confirm the problem.

2. Set the emergency brake and move the shift lever to the "N" position using the shift lock override key cylinder.

3. Remove the ashtray and console insert tab.

Remove the connector for the cigarette lighter to completely remove the console.

5. Turn the ignition "ON".

9. Lift the panel to see the shift lock actuator.

NOTE:
Take care not to expose electrical connections to water or lubricant while performing this operation.

12. Disconnect the shift lock actuator (H-05) at the front of the console area.

13. Probe the harness side of the connection for correct voltage and continuity values. Refer to the appropriate page of the workshop manual for expected values.
