Subject:
FUEL GAUGE READS 3/4 WITH TANK FULL

DESCRIPTION
Some fuel tank gauges may read 3/4 full when the tank itself is completely full. This is caused by a bent fuel pump pipe. To repair this condition, follow the inspection and repair procedures in this bulletin.

INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURES

1. Check the resistance at pins 1 and 2 of the fuel sending unit connector.
2. If the ohm reading is higher than 3.0 +/- 1.0 when the tank is full then the fuel pump pipe is bent and will require straightening.

Note:
Do not replace the sending unit, this will not fix the condition.
3. Drain and remove the fuel tank according to the instructions in the workshop manual, section F2, pages F2-62-66.
4. Bend the fuel pump pipe straight and parallel to the mounting plate at the top of the assembly

5. Measure and adjust the distance as shown in figure 2.

6. Measure the resistance at the sending unit. Refer to the table below.

Resistance At Empty 110 +/- 3.5 Ohms

Resistance At Full 3.0 +/- 1.0 Ohms

7. Reassemble the fuel pump and tank according to the Instructions in the workshop manual, section F2, pages F2-62-66
