Exhaust Temperature Sensor: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
If floor temperature reaches a potentially dangerous level because of converter overheating, a warning light illuminates on the center console and the sensor signals the ECU. To cool the converter and diminish the hazard, the ECU turns "OFF" air pump magnetic clutch, stopping air flow to the converter.

LOCATION
Under right seat and floor mat.

OPERATION
Sensor is an "ON/OFF" switch that turns warning light "ON" when heated to 221° - 239°F (105° - 115°C).
