Air Injection Pump: Testing and Inspection
SYSTEM OPERATIONAir Pump System Operation:
1. Start engine. Raise speed above 3250 rpm and verify air pump magnetic clutch is "OFF."
2. Stop engine. Connect Mazda SST (Engine Signal Monitor Adapter Harness), or equivalent test equipment.
3. Turn ignition "ON." Short ECU terminal 2J and verify magnetic clutch is "OFF."
4. If clutch is not "OFF," check air pump relay.
5. If relay is okay, unplug air pump connector and check continuity.
6. If not as specified, replace air pump.
CONTINUITY
Air Pump Continuity Check:
1. Unplug connector and check for continuity across terminals.
2. If no continuity, replace air pump.
PRESSURE
Air Pump Pressure Check:
1. Disconnect air hose (from air control valve to air pump) at air control valve.
2. Connect appropriate pressure gauge to hose.
3. Start engine, run at idle, and check pressure.
PRESSURE: Above 0.7 psi (4.9 kPa)
