Fuel Delivery and Air Induction: Description and Operation

FUEL DELIVERY

Fuel System:

Description
The Engine Control Unit (ECU) monitors various sensors mounted on the engine, including an exhaust gas oxygen sensor, using this information to determine quantity of fuel needed. Fuel is supplied to injectors at high pressure and ECU energizes injectors for varying lengths of time, depending on amount of fuel required.

AIR INDUCTION (INTAKE AIR SYSTEM)

Intake Air System:

Components
1. Fresh air duct
2. Resonance chamber
3. Air cleaner
4. Air bypass valve
5. Intercooler
6. Throttle body
7. Double throttle valve
8. Double throttle control actuator
9. Intake manifold
10. Extension manifold
11. Accelerator cable
12. Turbo control actuator
13. Charge control actuator
14. Charge relief valve
15. Turbocharger
16. Turbo precontrol actuator
17. Wastegate control actuator

Description
System uses a variety of devices to control quantity of intake air allowed into the engine. Turbocharger output, double throttle valve, and idle speed are ECU regulated. The main air intake control is the throttle valve, controlled by the driver with accelerator pedal and cable.
