1. Catalytic converters reach operating temperatures of 650 °C (1200 °F). Do not park vehicle over objects or materials that could ignite (i.e. dry leaves, cardboard, puddles of oil, or other combustibles). Catalytic converters stay hot for some time after engine shut off.
2. Some exhaust gas components (for example, carbon monoxide) are toxic. Do not operate engine in confined areas or breathe concentrated exhaust gases. Breathing exhaust gases may cause loss of consciousness and death.
3. Repair exhaust system leaks as soon as possible. Escaping exhaust gas can ignite flammable materials and may set vehicle on fire.
4. Be alert for fuel odors and excessive tailpipe emissions (black smoke etc..). These are problem indicators.
