Checking the Basics
1. Visually check turbocharger system components, checking for:^ Damaged connections or insulation.
^ Damaged air flow meter.
^ Evidence of inoperative solenoids.
^ Malfunctioning ECU.
^ Dirty air filter element.
^ Air duct damage, looseness.
^ Vacuum hose damage, pinching, kinking, bad connections.
^ Turbocharger oil leakage.
^ Unusual engine noises.
^ Wastegate, actuators, or linkage damage or binding.
2. Check wiring and connectors at solenoids, ECU, and other electronic components for obvious problems such as looseness, corrosion, or other damage.
3. If a component is suspected as the obvious cause for the malfunction, correct the defect before proceeding.
4. If all checks are OK, continue testing under this section or go to Components.
