Fig. 7, Disassembled View Of Manual Steering Gear (RX-7):

1. Secure gear and linkage assembly in a suitable vise.
2. Mark position of tie rod ends for assembly reference, then remove tie rod ends from tie rods, Fig. 7.
3. Cut boot wires, then remove boot clamps and the boots.
4. Secure rack gear in vise, then remove tie rods and spring pins.
5. Remove locknut, adjust cover, yoke sheet, spring and pressure pad from housing.
6. Remove pinion dust cover, then the locknut and rear cover with oil seal.
7. Remove pinion from housing.
8. Carefully slide rack out of housing in direction opposite rack bushing.
9. Remove rack bushing, then the gear housing.
