NOTE: Bypass Air Control (BAC) Valve consists of the air valve and idle air control valve.

SYSTEM OPERATION

BAC Valve Inspection:

Air Valve

NOTE: Inspection must be done with engine cold - coolant temperature below 68°F (20°C).

1. Start engine.
2. Verify that idle speed gradually decreases as engine warms up.

Idle Air Control Valve

1. Start engine and verify idle speed is within specification:

IDLE SPEED: 700 ± 50 rpm

2. Unplug valve connector.
3. If engine speed does not decrease, replace BAC valve.
4. Perform after-repair procedure to clear malfunction codes.

COMPONENT TEST

Air Valve

1. Remove BAC valve.
2. Cool valve to below 32°F (0°C).
3. Heat BAC valve at point A with a blow drier. Verify that part B moves in direction of arrow.
4. If not as specified, replace BAC valve.

Idle Air Control Valve

1. Unplug valve connector.
2. Measure resistance across valve terminals.

RESISTANCE: 7.7 - 9.3 Ohms @ 73°F (23°C)

3. If not as specified, replace BAC valve.
