Automatic Transaxle

EGR System:

PURPOSE
System lowers combustion chamber temperatures to reduce NOx emissions.

LOCATION
^ EGR valve: beneath intake manifold near throttle body.
^ EGR solenoids: bracket on rear of intake manifold.
^ EGR function sensor: on EGR valve.

OPERATION

System recirculates a portion of exhaust gas through the EGR valve and intake manifold into the combustion chambers. To improve driveability when engine is cold, system does not operate when coolant temperature is below 78°F (26°C).

At operating temperature, system functions when these conditions are met:
^ TPS, MAF, ECTS, IAT or EGR function sensor have not failed.
^ Engine not cranking.
^ Engine temperature above specified minimum.
^ Engine speed above 1000 rpm.
^ Not under heavy load.
