Fuel Pump Relay: Description and Operation

PURPOSE
Provides power to electric fuel pump.

LOCATION
Relay panel forward of left strut tower.

OPERATION
When the ignition is turned ON, power from the ignition switch is applied to the relay hold-in coil. The relay is energized when the PCME completes the circuit to ground through the relay coil.

As a safety feature, the relay is only energized when the engine is running or being cranked by the starter motor. If the engine dies, the PCME turns the relay OFF.
