B Pillar Door Sash - Gaps are Too Narrow

ADJUSTMENT OF B-PILLAR DOOR SASH

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
All 1993-94 626 model vehicles

DESCRIPTION
The gap between the front and rear door sashes may be too narrow. This could cause damage to the weatherstrip. Follow the procedures below to correct this problem.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify that the doors close easily and there is no looseness or excessive gap.
2. Inspect the striker for proper feel and contact with the door lock mechanism.

NOTE:
If the doors or strikers require adjusting, refer to section S of the workshop manual for adjustment procedure.

3. Measure the gap at the top and bottom of each B-pillar. If the gap is less than 4 mm, adjust as follows.
4. Visually determine which door sash(s) needs adjustment. If the front door sash needs adjustment:
a) Open the front door and lower the window.





b) Using a rubber mallet, strike upward on the sash at the underside at position "A" (see figure).
c) Close the door and confirm that the gap at the B-pillar sash is 5 mm +/- 1 mm.
d) If the gap is less than 4 mm, repeat step "b".
e) If the gap is correct, verify the door fit and operation (refer to steps "1" and "2" above).

If the rear door sash needs adjustment:
a) Open the rear door and lower the window.
b) Using a rubber mallet, strike upward on the sash at the underside at position "B" (see figure).
c) Close the door and confirm that the gap at the sash is 5 mm +/- 1 mm.
d) If the gap is less than 4 mm, repeat step "b".
e) If the gap is correct, verify the door fit and operation (refer to steps "1" and "2" above).

If both door sashes need adjustment:
a) Open the front and rear doors and lower the windows.
b) Using a rubber mallet, strike upward on the sash underside at position "A" and "B" equally (see figure).
c) Close the doors and confirm that the gap at the B-pillar sash is 5 mm +/- 1 mm.
d) If the gap is less than 4 mm, repeat step "b".
e) If the gap is correct, verify the door fit and operation (refer to steps "1" and "2" above).
