Timing Belt Removal

Removal

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the splash shield and right front wheel.
3. Remove the drive belts.





4. Remove in the order shown in the image, referring to Removal Notes.

Removal Notes:
P/S oil pump:





a. Remove the bolts shown in the image and secure the P/S oil reservoir away from the engine.





b. Loosen the pulley nut as shown.
c. Remove the pulley.





d. Remove the bolt shown in the image.





e. Remove the bolts shown in the image and remove the P/S oil pump.





f. Position the P/S oil pump away from the engine and secure it with wire.





Crankshaft pulley:

Caution: Do not damage the crankshaft position sensor rotor on the rear of the crankshaft pulley during removal and installation.





a. Install the SST with suitable bolts (M10 x 1.25) to the crankshaft pulley.

Caution: Install the bolts fully.

b. Remove the crankshaft pulley bolt and the pulley.





Timing belt pulley:

Note: If necessary, remove the pulley by using a steering wheel puller (commercially available).

Dipstick and pipe:
a. Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.





b. Remove the clip from the oil dipstick pipe.





c. Remove the oil dipstick and pipe.
d. Plug the hole in the engine after removing the pipe.

Timing belt cover:





a. Support the engine by using the SST (engine support).





b. Remove the engine mount No. 3.





c. Remove the right and left timing belt covers.

Timing Belt:





a. Install the crankshaft pulley bolt into the crankshaft.
b. Turn the crankshaft so that the No.1 piston is at TDC of the compression stroke.
c. Mark the timing belt rotation on the belt for proper reinstallation.





d. Loosen the auto tensioner bolts and remove the lower bolt.

Caution: When removing the bolt, hold the tensioner so that the bolt holes are aligned, otherwise the threads can be damaged.





e. Remove the No.1 idler pulley and remove the timing belt.

Caution:
- When removing the pulley bolt, hold the pulley so that the bolt holes are aligned, otherwise the threads can be damaged.
- The following will damage the belt and shorten its life:
Forcefully twisting it
Turning it inside out
Bending it
Allowing oil or grease on it.
