APPLICABLE MODELS
All 1993 - 95 626 and MX-6 vehicles with Automatic Transaxles
DESCRIPTION
The "HOLD or "O/D" function will not work and/or the light (indicating either function) may not illuminate. This can be caused by a broken wire connected to the shift lever. Breakage occurs when the wire is pinched at the base attaching clip and broken when the shift lever is moved. Customers complaining of this problem should have the vehicle inspected and repaired using the instructions below.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the complaint
2. Remove front console.
3. Inspect the wire for no or intermittent continuity when the wire is wiggled.
Refer to HOLD or O/D Switch Inspection of Continuity Procedures in section K of the workshop manual.
^ If no continuity exists, the wire is probably broken. Proceed to step 4.
^ If continuity exists, refer to the workshop manual for troubleshooting instructions.
4. Inspect the wire where it attaches to the clip.
^ If broken, strip approximately 25 mm (1 in.) of protective covering from the wire on each side of The clip and repair the wire as shown in Fig. 2.
^ If not broken in that area, inspect the entire wire to identify the damaged area or refer to the work shop manual for instructions.
NOTE:
After repair, do not route wires through the base clip.
5. Tape the switch harness to the illumination light harness as shown in Fig. 3
6. Verify repair.
7. Install front console.
