1993-94 626/MX-6 (GE) with KL engine
DESCRIPTION
To improve the serviceability, the igniter set and the ignition coil (Fig. 1) have been newly established as components of the distributor in addition to the cap, the rotor and the gasket The igniter set includes an igniter unit, vanes, ignition coil connector and all screws (except cap screws).
NOTE:
KL01 distributor only.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Check the external appearance of distributor housing, the cap and the rotor.
^ If no problem is found, replace the igniter set and the ignition coil with new ones according to the procedure.
REMOVAL PROCEDURE
1. Remove the fresh air duct and the air cleaner.
2. Remove the distributor cap (1), the rotor (2), and the gasket (3).
3. Remove two screws (4), then remove the igniter cover (5).
4. By holding the rotor drive with an open end wrench, remove the armature center screw (6), then remove the rotor drive (7), the upper and lower vane (8) (9), and the spacer (10).
NOTE:
The removed vane can not be reused.
5. Remove the ignition coil terminal screw (11), condenser screw (14), then remove the ignition coil connector (12) and the igniter unit (13).
6. Remove two retaining plate screws (15), then remove the ignition coil retaining plate (16) and the ignition coil (17).
NOTE:
Observe position of the ignition coil retaining plate.
INSTALLATION PROCEDURE
CAUTION:
All screws (except screws of the cap) should be replaced and are included in the kit.
1. Install the ignition coil (17), retaining plate (16) and retaining plate (15). Specified torque: 4-7 - 5.1 Nm (47 - 53 kgf cm, 41-16 in lbf).
2. Install the igniter unit (13).
3. Install the igniter coil connector (12). Push it down to connect the terminals securely.
4. Tighten the ignition terminal screw (11) which joins the ignition coil connector with the igniter unit Specified torque: 0.6 - 1.0 Nm (6 - 30 kgf cm, 14 - 26 in lbf).
5. Tighten the condenser screw (14) which joins the condenser of ignition coil connector with the housing. Specified torque: 1.6 - 2.9 Nm (16 - 11 kgf cm, 5.3 - 9.5 in lbf)
6. Install the spacer (10) and the vanes (8) (9) on the shaft: When installing the vanes, fit them to the shaft configuration.
NOTE:
Be careful not to deform the vanes.
7. Install the rotor drive (7) on the shaft and hold it with an open end wrench or equivalent and tighten the armature center screw (6). Specified torque: 4.7 - 5.1 Nm (47 - 53 kgf cm, 41 - 46 in lbf).
8. Install the igniter cover (5), then tighten the igniter cover screw (4). Specified torque: 4.7 - 5.1 Nm (47 - 53 kgf cm, 41 - 46 in lbf).
9. Install the gasket (3) in the housing groove.
10. Install the rotor (2). Insert it until a click is heard.
NOTE:
If a click is not heard, change the phase of the rotor.
11. Install the cap (1). Specified torque: 1.0 - 1.9 Nm (10 -20 kgf cm, 8.7 - 17 in lbf).
12. Install the fresh air duct and the air cleaner.
