DESCRIPTION
Door key lock cylinders that do not illuminate when the door handle is lifted may have a faulty bulb, micro switch or wiring harness. Service parts are available to correct this problem without replacing the door handle assembly. Follow the procedures in this bulletin to remove and replace the bulb, micro switch and wiring harness. If both the door key lock cylinder and the ignition switch do not illuminate (refer to flowchart # 5, page 12-21 in the Body Electrical Troubleshooting Manual). The problem may be the CPU (located on the rear of the fuse box), the wiring or the 15A Room Fuse.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify problem is isolated to the key lock cylinder and not the ignition switch also.
2. Remove the door trim following the instructions on page S-99 of the workshop manual.
3. Plastic door liner back enough to access inside of door (outer) handle.





4. Remove linkage from door key lock cylinder.





5. Remove lock cylinder clip and lock cylinder.





6. Remove screw from black micro switch.
7. Remove screw from white wiring harness retainer.
8. Remove bulb from recessed area in door handle near lock cylinder mounting hole.

NOTE:
Do not attempt to remove the bulb without removing the lock cylinder. Wiring harness damage will result.

9. Remove wiring harness, micro switch and bulb as an assembly and replace with a new assembly.

NOTE:
Route the wiring harness exactly like it was removed. If not, there will be interferance with the door linkage(s).

10. Install lock cylinder and clip.
11. Install lock cylinder linkage.
12. Install inner door liner and trim.
13. Verify correct operation of the Illuminated entry system.
