DESCRIPTION





A clicking/popping noise may be heard from the back seat area while sitting in the front seat. This noise may be caused by interference between the seat back cover clips and the No.3 seat back "S" spring. Refer to Fig. 1. Vehicles outside the above VIN ranges have a modified "S" spring that will avoid interference with the seat back clip.

If a customer complains of this type of noise, follow the procedures below to repair the vehicle.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the concern.

^ If the noise is coming from the seat back, proceed to step 2.

^ If the noise is not coming from the seat back area, refer to the NVH or workshop manual for repair procedures.

2. Pull the seat back cover downward and pull the top out to disengage the upper cover clips.





3. Carefully reach into the seat back to release the remaining four (4) side clips. Refer to Fig. 2

CAUTION:
SEAT FRAME EDGES ARE EXTREMELY SHARP. WEAR PROTECTIVE GLOVES TO PREVENT PERSONAL INJURY.





4. Remove the bottom two (2) clips.

^ Bend the metal tines of the bottom two (2) clips back with a screwdriver.

^ Remove the fabric from the metal tines.

^ Remove the metal clip retainer and clip.

5. Slide the new clip onto the seat back cover and install the clip retainer in reverse order of removal.

NOTE:
Confirm that all seat back cover staples are still in place.

6. Install seat back cover.

^ Slide the top of the cover into place so that the top clips slide behind the metal seat frame.

^ Work the metal clips into position.

^ Bend the side clips (with your fingers) to slide behind the seat metal frame.

7. Confirm that the seat cover is square to the seat.

8. Verify repair.
