FUEL GAUGE READS 3/4 WITH "FULL" TANK

This bulletin was originally released as Cat. T 005/93. The bulletin is reissued to include the 1994 and 1995 model years.

APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS

All 1993-95 626/MX6 vehicles with a VIN of 1YVGE22CXS5420612 and lower.

DESCRIPTION

Some fuel tank gauges may read 3/4 full when the tank itself is full. This is caused by a bent fuel pump pipe. Customers complaining of this problem should have the vehicle inspected and, if necessary, repaired according to the procedure in this bulletin.

INSPECTION AND REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Verify the complaint

2. Check the resistance at pins 1 and 2 of the fuel sending unit connector.

^ If the ohm reading is higher than 3.0 +/- 1.0 when the tank is full, then the fuel pump pipe is bent and will require straightening.

^ If the ohm is within specification, refer to the BETM for further troubleshooting information.

NOTE:
It is not necessary to replace the fuel sending unit to correct this concern.

3. Drain and remove the fuel tank according to the workshop manual.

4. Bend the fuel pump pipe straight and parallel to the mounting plate at the top of the assembly.

5. Measure and adjust the distance according to Fig. 2.

6. Measure the resistance at the sending unit. Refer to the table below.

Resistance Empty 110 +/- 3.5 ohms

Resistance Full 3.0 +/- 1.0 ohms

7. Reassemble the fuel pump and tank according to the workshop manual.

8. Verify the repair.
