DESCRIPTION

The vehicle headliner may rattle when traveling over rough roads. This is due to poor adherence of the velcro retainers in the sunroof area. Mazda has released a fastener kit which contains upgraded velcro fasteners to correct this problem. Customers complaining of this problem should have the kit installed.

NOTE:
Replacement of the headliner is not necessary to correct this problem.

REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify the complaint on a suitable road. If the rattle is caused by a source other than the headliner, repair as needed.

2. If the rattle is caused by the headliner, remove the headliner. Refer to section S page 102-5 of the workshop manual.
3. Remove and discard the 10 (ten) black, round velcro fasteners located on the headliner side around the sunroof opening. Refer to Fig. 1.

4. Install the new, blue velcro fasteners (provided in the fastener kit) in the locations where the black fasteners were removed. Refer to Fig. 1.

5. Install headliner
6. Verify repair.
