CREAK/RATTLE NOISE FROM PASSENGER SIDE WIPER
APPLICABLE MODELS/VINS
All 1993 - 95 626/MX-6 vehicles.
DESCRIPTION
A rattle noise from the cowl area or a creak noise from the passenger side front windshield may be heard during windshield wiper operation. This noise may be caused by broken spot welds on the windshield wiper arm support bracket.
Customers complaining of this noise should have the vehicle inspected and if necessary, repaired according to the instructions in this bulletin.
NOTE:
Place a copy of this bulletin in the NVH manual for future reference.
REPAIR PROCEDURE
1. Verify noise.
^ If the noise is coming from the cowl area during windshield wiper operation, proceed to step 2.
^ If the noise is not related to windshield wiper operation, refer to workshop or NVH manual for troubleshooting instructions.
2. Remove the wiper arms and cowl grill. Refer to section S of the workshop manual.
3. Inspect the two spot welds. Refer to Fig. 1.
^ If broken, proceed to step 4.
^ If not broken, inspect the area for other causes or refer to the workshop manual or NVH manual for troubleshooting instructions.
4. Drill 1/4 inch (6 mm) hole through the top of the two (2) spot welds. Refer to Fig. 2
5. Remove metal shavings.
6. Clean bracket with denatured alcohol and apply silicone sealer at both holes (to prevent rusting).
7. Install two (2) bolts, washer and nut assemblies. Refer to Fig. 3
8. Wipe off excess silicone.
9. Install cowl grill and wiper arms.
10. Confirm repair.
