General System Description
GENERAL SYSTEM OPERATIONThe Powertrain Control System consists of various sensors, switches, Powertrain Control Module Engine (PCME) and Powertrain Control Module Transmission (PCMT). The sensors and switches act as inputs to the Control Modules.
The sensors and switches (inputs) send the Control Modules data concerning engine and transmission operating conditions. The Control Modules share and interpret this data in order to control various output devices. The output devices control air intake amounts, the amount of fuel injection, fuel injection timing, evaporative emissions, idle-up, deceleration, ignition timing, automatic transmission (AT) shifting and torque converter lockup operation. The Control Modules have varying amounts of control over these (outputs).
By controlling these outputs, the Control Modules can meet the different operational and driveability needs of the engine and transmission as they experience different operating conditions and requirements.
