Variable Inertia Charging System (VICS)
DESCRIPTION
By connecting the length of the intake air path in the intake manifold and the dynamic chamber, the resonance induced inertia charging effect is improved, yielding greater torque and a wider torque band. This system opens and closes the shutter valve according to the engine condition to improve the charging efficiency by utilizing the pressure waves of the intake air.
OPERATION
The Powertrain Control Module Engine (PCME) closes the shutter valve by stopping the electric current to the variable inertia charging system (VICS) solenoid valve. The VICS solenoid valve switches the shutter valve actuator to an air release position when the following conditions are met:
- When the engine is started, or for five seconds after the engine is started.
- When the throttle is opened in D range and at an engine speed of 1100-4800 rpm.
