Crankshaft Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection

CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR (IN DISTRIBUTOR)
Inspection
1. Remove the distributor assembly. Refer to: Ignition System/ Distributor/ Service and Repair.

2. Disconnect the injector connector.
3. Verify that the distributor connector (4 pin) is disconnected.

4. Connect the distributor connector (6-pin) as shown in figure.
5. Turn the ignition switch ON.


(SST) Engine Signal Monitor-49 9200 162 And Adapter Harness-49 G018 903:





6. Connect the special service tool (SST) (Engine Signal Monitor and Adapter Harness) to the powertrain control module engine (PCME) as shown.
7. Rotate the distributor shaft by hand and measure the output voltage at PCME terminals 2E (SGT), and 2G (SGC).

Voltage should cycle between 0.0 Volts and 4.5-5.0 Volts.

8. If not as specified, replace the distributor.
9. After the inspection, install the distributor.
10. Start the engine and adjust the ignition timing.

Ignition timing: BTDC 10 +/- 1°

11. Tighten the distributor lock bolt to the specified torque.

Tightening torque: 19 - 25 Nm (14 - 18 ft.lb.)
