Park/Neutral Switch (ATX)

FUNCTIONAL TEST
1. Verify that the starter operates only with the ignition switch at the START position and the selector lever in P or N position.
2. Verify that the back-up lights illuminate when shifted to R position with the ignition switch in the ON position.
3. Check the park/neutral switch if not as specified.

CONTINUITY TEST

NOTE: Obtain audio anti-theft access code before disconnecting battery cables.

1. Disconnect the negative battery cable.
2. Remove the resonance duct and the air cleaner housing assembly.
3. Disconnect the park/neutral switch connector.

View: Test Connections and Readings:

4. Check continuity of the park/neutral switch.
5. If not as specified, replace or adjust the park/neutral switch.
6. Connect the park/neutral switch connector.
7. Install the air cleaner housing assembly and the resonance duct.
8. Connect the negative battery cable.

SIGNAL (INPUT TO PCME) TEST
1. Connect the special service tools (SST) to the powertrain control module engine (PCME).

SST Engine Signal Monitor-49 9200 162 And Harness Adapter-49 G018 903:

2. Connect the SST engine signal monitor between the PCME and the vehicle's PCME connector by using the SST adapter harness.

SST Sheet Overlay-49 G018 904:

3. Place the SST engine signal sheet overlay on the SST engine signal monitor.
4. Turn ignition switch ON.
5. Measure voltage at PCME terminal 1V.

Park or Neutral gear range:--0.0 Volts.
Other gear ranges:--Battery Positive Voltage.

6. If signal is not as specified check the following:
- Park/Neutral switch, wiring between switch and powertrain control module transaxle (PCMT). PCMT input terminal (from P/N switch) is 2B.
- Wiring between PCMT output terminal 1D to PCME input terminal 1V.
7. Repair or replace failed components/wiring as necessary.
