Manual Transaxle (MTX)

PURPOSE
Provides powertrain control module engine (PCME) with a signal related to throttle position and opening speed.

CONSTRUCTION
The throttle position sensor consists of two sub-components in a single housing. One is the throttle position sensor-throttle valve opening (TVO) sensor; which is a potentiometer attached to the throttle body and splined to the throttle shaft. The second sub-component is the throttle position sensor-idle switch (IDL); which consists of a pair of "hard idle" switch contacts.

OPERATION
TVO-Sensor
The potentiometer contact rotates with the shaft as the throttle opens and closes. Varying potentiometer resistance alters the reference voltage supplied by the PCME, allowing it to read throttle valve opening angle.

The TVO-Sensor affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- Fuel injection quantity
- Fuel injection timing
- Idle air control valve (idle speed)
- Purge solenoid valve (purge control)
- A/C relay (A/C cut-off control system)
- Igniter (ignition timing control)
- EGR solenoid valves (EGR operation)

IDL-Idle Switch
The idle switch contacts close when the throttle shaft is closed. This provides the PCME with a signal representing either curb idle or deceleration conditions.

The IDL-Idle Switch affects the operation of the following PCME output systems and/or devices:
- Fuel injection quantity
- Fuel injection timing
- Idle air control valve (idle speed)
- Purge solenoid valve (purge control)
- A/C relay (A/C cut-off control system)
- Igniter (ignition timing control)
- EGR solenoid valves (EGR operation)
- Pressure regulator control solenoid valves (fuel pressure)
- Coolant fan relay (coolant fan control)
