Throttle Position Sensor: Testing and Inspection
IDLE SWITCH
View: Testing Throttle Position Sensor Idle Contacts:
1. With ignition OFF, unplug throttle position sensor connector and make sure throttle is closed.
View: Checking Continuity:
2. With an ohmmeter, check for continuity across sensor terminals C and D. If there is no continuity, adjust sensor and recheck.
View: Checking Throttle Position Sensor Idle Switch:
3. Insert a 0.5 mm (0.020 in) feeler gauge between stopper and throttle lever. Verify that there is no continuity across terminals C and D.
VARIABLE RESISTOR
SST-49 G018 903 Adapter Harness, SST-49 9200 162A Eng. Signal Monitor, SST-49 G018 904 Sheet Overlay:
1. Remove the powertrain control module engine (PCME) and connect special service tools (Engine Signal Monitor and Adapter harness) to the PCME.
2. Set Signal Monitor to position 2F. Turn ignition ON.
View: Throttle Position Sensor Output Voltages:
3. Rotate throttle by hand and verify that voltage is 0.1 - 1.1 Volts with throttle closed and 2.8 - 4.5 Volts at wide open throttle.
4. If not as specified, adjust sensor.
5. Replace sensor if it can not be brought within specification range by adjustment.
