View: Three-Way Catalyst:

PURPOSE
The three-way catalytic converter reduces CO, HC and NOx emissions by stimulating chemical reactions.

OPERATION
Catalyst metals within the converter stimulate chemical reactions which break down exhaust gas into carbon dioxide and water. Converter must warm up to operating temperature before operating properly.

CONSTRUCTION
Outer metal case contains a ceramic matrix coated with platinum and rhodium compounds.
