DESCRIPTION

Some vehicles within the ranges shown above may experience rough idle. This is caused by damage to the spark plug wire's insulation which can allow the spark to leak from the wire. The damage occurs at the spark plug wire supports (shown in Fig 1). If a customer complains of rough idle on a vehicle within the above range, follow the procedures below to troubleshoot and repair the vehicle.

INSPECTION PROCEDURE

1) Inspect the No. 1 & 2 spark plug wires around the wire support for breaks or slight burns in the wire's insulation (see illustration).

2) Inspect the wire support for slight spark damage.

3) If either 1 or 2 above are found, proceed to step 1 of the repair procedure. If no evidence of spark leakage is found, troubleshoot for the other problems.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1) If damage is found to the wire(s) and support(s), replace as necessary.
