Fuel Pump: Service and Repair

Fuel Pump R&R:

WARNING: Explosion and fire hazard. Observe these precautions when working on fuel tank:
^ Be sure area is well ventilated.
^ Relieve fuel system pressure before disconnecting lines.
^ Do not smoke where fuel vapor is present.
^ Disconnect battery and do not create sparks or flames where fuel vapor is present.

1. Remove rear seat cushion.
2. Remove access cover and disconnect tank gauge unit electrical connector.
3. Relieve fuel system pressure.
5. Disconnect hoses and remove fuel pump/gauge unit from tank.
6. Use new rubber seals and install in reverse order.

ASSEMBLY NOTES

Fuel Pump Assembly:

COMPONENTS

1. Band.
2. Bracket.
3. Rubber mount.
4. Fuel pump.
5. Fuel filter sock.

1. Use new O-ring set.
2. Apply oil or fuel to O-ring set before installing.
3. To confirm O-ring sealing, blow through main pipe after assembling pump to tank gauge sending unit. Verify no air flow past O-ring. If air passes, pump check ball may be stuck. Shake pump and recheck.
4. After installing pump to bracket, pull pump down tight against bracket.
