Reading and Clearing Diagnostic Trouble Codes
Inspection ProcedureNote: Do not connect the EC-AT Tester and the system selector to the data link connector were the engine signal monitor or another EC-AT Tester is connected to the powertrain control module (transaxle). Doing so can cause incorrect test results.
1. Connect the SST (System Selector) to the data link connector.
2. Set switch A to position 1. [Except B6 SOHC (California)]
Set switch A to position 2. [B6 SOHC (California)]
3. Set the TEST SW to SELF-TEST position.
4. Connect the SST (EC-AT Tester or Self-Diagnosis Checker) to the System Selector and a ground.
5. Set the select switch to position A.
6. Turn the ignition switch to ON.
7. Verify that "88" flashes on the digital display and that the buzzer sounds for 3 seconds.
8. If "88" does not flash, check the data link connector wiring.
9. If "88" flashes and the buzzer sounds continuously for more than 20 seconds, check for a short circuit between the powertrain control module (transaxle) terminal 1C [1F] and the data link connector.
For B6 SOHC (except California), BP SOHC, and BP DOHC engines, check between terminal 1 F and the data link connector.
If necessary, replace the powertrain control module (transaxle) and repeat from Step 2.
10. Note any code and check for the causes. Repair as necessary.
11. After repairs are made, do the After-Repair Procedure to verify that there are no remaining code numbers.
