Alternator: Service and Repair
1. Disarm radio coded theft protection as outlined in Technician Safety Information.2. Disconnect battery ground cable.
3. Remove air intake and air relief hoses.
4. Remove accelerator cable.
5. Remove pressure chamber, then air pipe and air pipe bracket.
6. Disconnect alternator wires and connectors.
7. Remove air pump hose and air pump.
8. Loosen and remove adjustment bracket bolt and remove drive belt.
9. Remove water hose, then mounting bolt and alternator.
10. Reverse procedure to install, noting the following:
a. Adjust drive belt tension, on new belt deflection should be 0.24 - 0.27 inch or 0.28 - 0.29 inch for used belt.
b. Torque adjustment bracket bolt to 14 - 18 ft.lb., and mounting bolt to 28 - 38 ft.lb.
